shaping capital infrastructure, trusted knowledge and experts ecosystem for global scalable carbon markets

Founder’s Welcome

Dear reader and carbon enthusiast,

For each of us and in service to a sustainable society, I founded Kapnest with the vision and mission: to shape the capital infrastructure, trusted knowledge and experts ecosystem in carbon. Together we are writing the next stage of high-integrity markets and channeling real capital towards impactful projects.

I’m Adelina Toader, a capital strategist with nearly two decades of experience in corporate banking and international structured trade finance.

I've built and coordinated profitable businesses and bespoke financial services from the ground up around the world. Across commodities sectors, such energy, oil & gas, petrochemicals, fertilisers, metals and mining, as well as other real industries supply chains.

Over the past four years, I’ve led the development of the carbon credits financing business within a major global financial institution. And this is only the beginning…

Building on postgrad studies of collective psychoanalysis, time has come to interpolate quantitative analytical metrics with ecological psychology knowledge. My postgrad research is focused on why with abundant technical data at hand humanity lacks decision drive in decarbonisation and nature protection efforts. Findings will be presented during Energy Shift Forum, Davos 2026.

Next Steps

1. Trusted knowledge

Globally we are missing a common climate investment language, in combination with nascent risk assessment practices, results in fragmentation, slow down of investments in carbon, and deters the perception of potential reputational risks.

In this first key pillar, mission of Kapnest is to increase carbon-literacy, align investment criteria and develop the red-ink common vocabulary of climate investments.

Concretely via regular social media and platform posts Kapnest will deliver educational content (news, research, risk analysis and selection, relevant projects) on carbon markets. Both in short and extensive formats, accessible to public and Kapnest subscribers. Online content will be complemented by publications, events, conferences, speaking roles.

Stage 1 of development: Q2-Q3 2025

2. Experts ecosystem

We are missing a consolidated space and network of the main relevant experts, real investors and active players in. carbon markets.

Kapnest stakeholders include: capital providers (financial institutions, private equity, pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, insurance companies, inter alia); sponsors and users (buyers and sellers, corporates from varied industries, traders, etc); project developers; service and market infrastructure supporters (carbon coalitions, measurement and risk management consulting, rating agencies, and so on).

Second key pillar with be represented by the creation of an ecosystem of core members representative of the above stakeholders. Entry and maintenance of membership of each member will entail proven commitment and investments in decarbonisation.

Kick-off gathering of the core stakeholders planned for end August/ start of September in Zürich. Goal of the gathering to agree on an end to end term sheet for carbon and nature financings (starting from equity, blended financing, project financing and off take integration).

Stage 2 of development: Q3 2025

3. Capital structuring

Bread and butter of the Kapnest ecosystem is the matching of of real investors and high-quality projects in carbon, further focused in nature and biodiversity.

Annual investment in energy transition reached historic highs of USD 2tr in 2024, however need is 2.5-3x higher, closer to USD 5tr pa. Specifically commitments in carbon and nature new projects have reached USD 14bn last year, less than 1%. Swiss academia research similarly shows real need of investment in biodiversity is of USD 1bn pa, 5x versus current capital deployed. In sum, there is material room for carbon projects to fill the gap in the net zero journey. Thus capital sources need to reach relevant projects and a higher speed of deal execution.

On the basis of the agreed term sheet of stage 2, bespoke capital structuring and matchmaking between investors (capital providers - sponsors - project developers - offtakers) to be facilitated in the Kapnest network.

Stage 3 of development: Q4 2025

4. Growth incubator

Deals done, pipeline growth, educational milestones delivered and expanding.

Kapnest as go to carbon and nature ecosystem. Globally recognised central point of capital access, trusted expertise and experts network.

Stage 4 of development: Q3-4 2025 and starting 2026.
